Independent Bookstore & Literary Gathering Place in Greenwich Village

Cornerstone Books & Café is an independent bookstore and café in the heart of Greenwich Village. Since 2005, we have been curating an exceptional collection of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s books, and rare editions while fostering a vibrant literary community through author events, book clubs, and writing workshops. We are proud to be one of New York City’s last great neighborhood bookstores.

Our Collection

We stock over 25,000 titles across two floors, with particular depth in contemporary fiction, literary classics, history, philosophy, art and design, cookbooks, and local interest. Our children’s section is one of the best in the city, handpicked by our dedicated children’s bookseller. We also carry a curated selection of independent magazines, literary journals, greeting cards, and bookish gifts.

Events & Community

We host 3-4 author events per week, from major book launches to intimate readings by emerging writers. Our monthly book clubs cover fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. We also offer creative writing workshops, children’s story time (Saturdays at 11am), and partner with local schools for reading programs. Our upstairs event space accommodates up to 80 guests for private events and corporate team-building.

The Café

Our in-house café serves espresso drinks, teas, pastries, and light bites. It’s the perfect spot to settle in with your new purchase or join the steady stream of writers, students, and readers who call Cornerstone their second living room.
