Authentic Italian Comfort Food in Carroll Gardens

Nonna’s Kitchen has been serving authentic southern Italian comfort food in Carroll Gardens since 2006. Inspired by the recipes of owner Maria Calabrese’s grandmother from Calabria, every dish is made from scratch using imported Italian ingredients and time-honored techniques that have been passed down through four generations.

The Menu

Our menu is a love letter to Italian home cooking. Start with our burrata with roasted heirloom tomatoes and basil oil, or the crispy calamari with spicy arrabbiata. Pasta dishes are the heart of our kitchen — from the hand-rolled pappardelle with slow-braised short rib ragù to our legendary baked ziti that has earned cult status in the neighborhood. Main courses include osso buco, chicken parmigiana, and a daily fresh fish preparation. Save room for our house-made tiramisu or the ricotta cheesecake with amarena cherries.

The Atmosphere

Walking into Nonna’s Kitchen feels like stepping into a family home in southern Italy. Exposed brick walls, checkered tablecloths, vintage family photographs, and the aroma of simmering tomato sauce create an atmosphere that’s warm, welcoming, and utterly unpretentious. Our intimate 50-seat dining room fills up fast on weekends, so reservations are strongly recommended.
